Hoyacrinus was named by Delogu and Nicosia (1986) [Sepkoski's age data: J Kimm]. It is not extant. Its type is Hoyacrinus sincerus. It is the type genus of Hoyacrinidae.
It was assigned to Cyrtocrinida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Hoyacrinidae by Hess and Messing (2011).
