Monachocrinus was named by Clark (1919) [Sepkoski's age data: K Sant-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 864]. It is extant. Its type is Monachocrinus sexradiatus.

It was assigned to Bathycrinidae by Rasmussen (1961); to Bourgueticrinida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Bathycrininae by Hess and Messing (2011).
