Taxonomy
Dryoxylon was named by Schleiden (1853). It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Dryoxylon jenense.

It was assigned to Magnoliopsida by Schleiden (1853) and Andrews (1970); and to Dicotyledonae by Lakhanpal et al. (1976) and Srivastava (1991).

Synonyms
  • Magnolites was named by Tuzson (1909). It is not extant. Its type is Magnolites silvatica.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Dryoxylon by Edwards (1931).
  • Dryoxylon simarubaceus was named by Trivedi et al. (1975). It is not extant. Its type locality is Mohgaon Kalan, which is in a Paleogene lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal horizon in the Deccan Intertrappean Formation of India.

    It was considered a nomen nudum by Srivastava (1991).
