Metacrinus was named by Carpenter (1882) [Sepkoski's age data: ]. It is extant. Its type is Metacrinus wyvillei.

It was assigned to Isocrinidae by Stilwell et al. (1994); and to Isocrinida by Sepkoski (2002).
