Taxonomy
Comaster was named by Agassiz (1836) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi R]. It is extant. Its type is Alecto multifida. It is the type genus of Comasterinae, Comasterini.

It was assigned to Comatulida by Sepkoski (2002); to Comasterinae by Eagle (2009) and Hess and Messing (2011); and to Comasterini by Summers et al. (2014).
