Comatulina was named by Orbigny (1852) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo K Coni]. It is not extant. Its type is Comatulina costata.

It was reranked as Solanocrinites (Comatulina) by Rasmussen (1961).

It was assigned to Solanocrinites by Rasmussen (1961); to Comatulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Solanocrinitidae by Hess and Messing (2011).
