Taxonomy
Cybele sexcostata was named by Salter in Phillips and Salter (1848). It is the type species of Encrinuroides.

It was recombined as Encrinuroides sexcostata by Shaw (1968); it was recombined as Encrinuroides sexcostatus by Reed (1931) and Evitt and Tripp (1977).
