Decameros was named by Orbigny (1850) [Sepkoski's age data: K Vala K Albi]. It is not extant. Its type is Decameros ricordeanus. It is the type genus of Decameridae.

It was reranked as Solanocrinites (Decameros) by Rasmussen (1961).

It was assigned to Solanocrinites by Rasmussen (1961); to Comatulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Decameridae by Hess and Messing (2011).
