Cretiscalpellum macrum was named by Collins (1973). Its type specimen is BMNH In.64414 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Northeast of the Church, 3 miles east of West Greene , which is in a Campanian carbonate chalk in the Mooreville Chalk Formation of Alabama.
