Goniatites crebriseptum was named by Barrande (1865). Its type specimen is CM L7884, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was considered a nomen dubium by Chlupac and Turek (1983); it was recombined as Praewerneroceras crebriseptum by Korn and Klug (2002).
