Orthogonocrinus was named by Peck (1943) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi K Coni]. Its type is Orthogonocrinus apertus.

It was assigned to Roveacrinida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Roveacrinidae by Rasmussen (1961), Hess and Messing (2011) and Gale and Matrion (2021).
