Monocolpopollenites ovatus was named by Jaramillo and Dilcher (2001) [Type locality: Piñalerita Creek near Sabanalarga. PaleoDB number: 28438. ]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is UFP 10, 6.6 x 85.5, a microspore (Pollen grain).
