Monoporites annulatus was named by Jaramillo and Dilcher (2001) [Other specimen: UFP 32, 10.5 x 83.7.]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is UFP 39, 18.2 x 82.4, a microspore (Pollen grain).

It was recombined as Monoporopollenites annulatus by Jaramillo and Dilcher (2001) and Jaramillo et al. (2010).
