Taxonomy
Archaeocidaris was named by M'Coy (1844) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fras C Mosc-u Sepkoski's reference number: 956,1066]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Archaeocidaridae.

It was assigned to Echinocystitoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Archaeocidaridae by M'Coy (1844), Fell (1966), Boczarowski (2001), Schneider et al. (2005) and Webster et al. (2009).
