Osmundacidites minor was named by Jaramillo and Dilcher (2001) [Type locality: Piñalerita Creek near Sabanalarga. PaleoDB number: 29075. Dimension in equatorial view. ]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is UFP 45, 14.8 x 87.4, a microspore.
