Taxonomy
Isthminia panamensis was named by Pyenson et al. (2015). Its type specimen is USNM 546125, a partial skeleton (consisting of an incomplete skull, both right and left mandibles, an incomplete right scapula, and two carpals. The skull lacks the basicranium and tympanoperio), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is STRI 650009 , which is in a Messinian marine horizon in the Chagres Sandstone Formation of Panama. It is the type species of Isthminia.
