Murmidiinae was named by Jacquelin du Val (1858). It is extant.

It was reranked as the family Murmidiidae by Robertson et al. (2015) and Cai et al. (2022).

It was assigned to Cerylonidae by Lawrence and Newton (1995); and to Coccinelloidea by Robertson et al. (2015) and Cai et al. (2022).
