Mycetaeinae was named by Jacquelin du Val (1857). It is extant.

It was reranked as the family Mycetaeidae by Robertson et al. (2015) and Cai et al. (2022).

It was assigned to Endomychidae by Lawrence and Newton (1995), Shockley et al. (2009) and Shockley and Alekseev (2014); and to Coccinelloidea by Robertson et al. (2015) and Cai et al. (2022).
