Dicyclocidaris was named by Fell (1950) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn Sepkoski's reference number: 801]. Its type is Dicyclocidaris denticulata.

It was assigned to Miocidaridae by Fell (1966) and Kier (1977); and to Cidaroida by Sepkoski (2002).
