Dorocidaris was named by Agassiz (1869) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes R Sepkoski's reference number: 709]. It is extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Cidaris by Grant and Hertlein (1938).

It was assigned to Cidaridae by Cooke (1941); and to Cidaroida by Sepkoski (2002).
