Miocidaris was named by Döderlein (1887) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad-u J Plie-u Sepkoski's reference number: 709,956,1066].

It was assigned to Cidaroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Miocidaridae by Fell (1966), Hagdorn (1995) and Thompson (2015).
