Taxonomy
Rhabdocidaris was named by Desor (1855) [Sepkoski's age data: J Plie-u T Eo-u Sepkoski's reference number: 956]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Rhabdocidarinae.

It was assigned to Cidaridae by de Loriol (1872); to Rhabdocidarinae by Fell (1966); to Cidaroida by Sepkoski (2002); to Poteriocrinitidae by Hess and Messing (2011); to Polycidaridae by Hostettler and Menkveld-Gfeller (2015); and to Rhabdocidaridae by Smith (2015), Hostettler et al. (2017) and Bischof et al. (2018).
