Sardocidaris was named by Lambert (1907) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno T Mi-l]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Tylocidaris (Sardocidaris) by Mancosu and Nebelsick (2016).

It was assigned to Psychocidaridae by Fell (1966); to Cidaroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tylocidaris by Mancosu and Nebelsick (2016).
