Taxonomy
Bellerophon consimilis was named by Savage (1913). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 2½ kilometers north of Thebes, which is in a Gamachian carbonate limestone/shale in the Leemon Formation of Illinois.

It was recombined as Sphenosphaera consimilis by Wagner (2023).
