Kierechinus was named by Philip (1963) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Pedinopsis melo.

It was assigned to Diadematidae by Philip (1963) and Fell (1966); and to Diadematoida by Sepkoski (2002).
