Retistephanocolpites fossulatus was named by Jaramillo and Dilcher (2001) [Type locality: Piñalerita Creek near Sabanalarga. PaleoDB number 28863. Paratype: UFP 41, 5.4 x 92.8.]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is UFP 39, 15 x 94, a microspore (pollen grain).
