Tetragramma was named by Agassiz (1840) [Sepkoski's age data: J Call K Turo-u Sepkoski's reference number: 577,956]. Its type is Cidarites variolare.

It was assigned to Hemicidaroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pseudodiadematidae by Fell and Pawson (1966), Smith (1991) and Berndt (2003).
