Nautilus quadrangularis was named by Pia (1914). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bäumels quarry, Ober-Wiestal, which is in a Sinemurian carbonate limestone in Austria.
It was recombined as Cenoceras quadrangularis by Kummel (1956).
