Arbacina was named by Pomel (1869) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u T Plio Sepkoski's reference number: 577].

It was assigned to Temnopleuridae by Fell and Pawson (1966) and Ragaini (1994); and to Temnopleuroida by Sepkoski (2002) and Smith (2009).
