Hebertella exfoliata was named by Raymond (1905).

It was recombined as Plectorthis exfoliata by Raymond (1911); it was recombined as Desmorthis exfoliata by Ulrich and Cooper (1938); it was recombined as Orthambonites exfoliata by Cooper (1956); it was recombined as Orthambonites exfoliatus by Welby (1961).
