Taxonomy
Orthopsis was named by Cotteau (1864) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bajo K Maes Sepkoski's reference number: 2,801]. It is the type genus of Orthopsinae.

It was assigned to Orthopsidae by Fell and Pawson (1966), Geys and Jagt (1986), Smith (1991) and Smith (1995); and to Orthopsida by Sepkoski (2002).
