Discoides was named by Parkinson (1811) [Sepkoski's age data: K Haut K Turo-u Sepkoski's reference number: 577,956]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Discoidinae.

It was assigned to Discoididae by Wagner and Durham (1966); and to Holectypoida by Sepkoski (2002).
