Taxonomy
Abertella was named by Durham (1953) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l T Mi-m]. Its type is Scutella aberti. It is the type genus of Abertellidae.

It was assigned to Clypeasteroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Abertellidae by Durham (1955), Durham (1966) and Smith (2009).
