Taxonomy
Cubanaster was named by Sánchez Roig (1952) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-u T Eo-u]. Its type is Jacksonaster torrei.

It was assigned to Neolaganidae by Durham (1954), Durham (1955), Durham (1966) and Donovan (1993); and to Clypeasteroida by Sepkoski (2002).
