Taxonomy
Cimolestes magnus was named by Clemens and Russell (1965). Its type specimen is UALVP 622, a mandible (Incomplete left dentary containing p4, m1–3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Trochu (KUA-1), which is in a Lancian terrestrial claystone/siltstone in the Scollard Formation of Canada. It is the type species of Altacreodus.
It was recombined as Altacreodus magnus by Fox (2015).
