Taxonomy
Prototomus minimus was named by Smith and Smith (2001). Its type specimen is IRSNB M1287, a tooth (LM/1), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Dormaal, which is in a Ypresian fluvial sandstone in the Tienen Formation of Belgium.
