Taxonomy
Nucleopygus was named by Agassiz (1840) [Sepkoski's age data: K Nc T Mi Sepkoski's reference number: 577].

It was assigned to Nucleolitidae by Smith (1991); to Cassidulidae by Kier (1962), Kier (1966) and Smith (1995); and to Cassiduloida by Sepkoski (2002).
