Rhyncholampas was named by Agassiz (1869) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than R Sepkoski's reference number: 942]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Cassidulus (Rhyncholampas) by Twitchell (1915).

It was assigned to Cassidulus by Twitchell (1915); to Echinolampadidae by Sanchez Roig (1926); to Cassidulidae by Kier (1962), Kier (1966), Kier (1980) and Kier (1997); and to Cassiduloida by Sepkoski (2002).
