Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
W. W. Korth 2013Large mylagaulines; postorbital process of skull enlarged as in Pterogaulus Korth, 2000a (mean POI = 0.42), but not wing-like, thicker and covered with highly porous bone; a middle lacerate foramen is present anterior to the bulla (not present in other mylagaulines); the paired bony knobs (=bosses) near the anterior end of the nasals are oval in outline (long axis anteroposterior) and larger than in Alphagaulus and lower than in Umbogaulus; oc- cipital sloped anteriorly as in Pterogaulus (OA = 57°–69°; mean = 61°); premolars simple, number of fossettes on P4 range from 6–8, on p4 from 4–9; majority of fossettes (-ids) on P4/p4 oriented slightly obliquely (posterolingual to anterobuccal); parafossette of P4 with no preferential separation of anterior branches; proportions of P4 simi- lar to that of Ceratogaulus (W/L = 0.71), wider than in Pterogaulus, narrower than in Umbogaulus.
