Cyclaster was named by Cotteau (1856) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 956]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Brissidae by Fischer (1966) and Henderson (1975); and to Spatangoida by Sepkoski (2002).
