Eupatagus was named by Agassiz (1847) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 577]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Brissidae by Cooke (1959), Fischer (1966) and Henderson (1975); and to Spatangoida by Sepkoski (2002).
