Moira was named by Agassiz (1872) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 942]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Hemiasteridae by Grant and Hertlein (1938); to Schizasteridae by Cooke (1942) and Fischer (1966); and to Spatangoida by Sepkoski (2002).
