Taxonomy
Hyaenodon pervagus was named by Matthew and Granger (1924). Its type specimen is AMNH 19005, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Loh, which is in an Oligocene terrestrial horizon in the Hsanda Gol Formation of Mongolia.
