Taxonomy
Cypraea gualalaensis was named by Anderson (1958). Its type specimen is CAS 61918.01, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS 61918 - Near Gualala, which is in a Campanian/Maastrichtian marine horizon in the Gualala Formation of California.
It was corrected as Cypraea guadelensis by Sundberg and Riney (1984); it was recombined as Bernaya (Protocypraea) gualalaensis by Groves (1990) and Groves et al. (2011).
