Cypraea pyriformis was named by Gray (1824). It is extant.

It was recombined as Erronea (Adusta) pyriformis by Oostingh (1935); it was recombined as Adusta pyriformis by Schilder (1941); it was recombined as Cypraea (Adusta) pyriformis by Eisenberg (1981); it was recombined as Erronea pyriformis by Cernohorsky (1967) and Robba et al. (2007).
