Taxonomy
Aelurognathus minor was named by Brink and Kitching (1953). Its type specimen is BP/1/262, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bethesda Road Area, which is in a Wuchiapingian/Changhsingian terrestrial horizon in South Africa.
It was recombined as Lycaenops minor by Sigogneau (1970), Sigogneau-Russell (1989) and Kammerer (2016).
