Cnemidium conicum was named by Roemer (1841).

It was recombined as Spongites conicus by Quenstedt (1878); it was recombined as Pachytrachelus conicus by Schrammen (1910); it was recombined as Ozotrachelus conica by Reid (2004); it was recombined as Ozotrachelus conicus by Frisone et al. (2016).
