Taxonomy
Cypraea simiensis was named by Nelson (1925). Its type specimen is UC 30498, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Propustularia simiensis by Perrilliat (2013); it was recombined as Protocypraea simiensis by Groves and Squires (2023).
