Lyncina magnifica was named by Dolin and Lozouet (2004) [1923 Cypraea (Cavicypraea) subovum sensu Cossmann & Peyrot [non d'Orbigny, 1852]: part. 289-291.

2001a Lyncina peyroti (Schilder) - Lozouet et al. : 41, pi. 17, fig. 3.]. Its type specimen is MNHN-Malacologie, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Merignac, Bordeaux, Gironde, which is in an Aquitanian/Burdigalian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in France.
