Cypraea (Austrocypraea) was named by Cossmann (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-u T Mi-m Sepkoski's reference number: 614, 909]. Its type is Cypraea (Luponia) contusa.

It was Lyncina (Austrocypraea) by Yates (2009); it was reranked as Austrocypraea by Sepkoski (2002) and Dolin and Pacaud (2009).

It was assigned to Cypraea by Cossmann (1903); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); to Austrocypraeini by Dolin and Pacaud (2009); and to Lyncina by Yates (2009).
